Summary

From holy cup comes holy light;
The faithful hand sets world aright。
And in the Seven Martyrs’ sight,
Mere man shall end this endless night。

It has been twenty-seven long years since the last sunrise。 For nearly three decades, vampires have waged war against humanity; building their eternal empire even as they tear down our own。 Now, only a few tiny sparks of light endure in a sea of darkness。

Gabriel de León is a silversaint: a member of a holy brotherhood dedicated to defending realm and church from the creatures of the night。 But even the Silver Order could not stem the tide once daylight failed us, and now, only Gabriel remains。

Imprisoned by the very monsters he vowed to destroy, the last silversaint is forced to tell his story。 A story of legendary battles and forbidden love, of faith lost and friendships won, of the Wars of the Blood and the Forever King and the quest for humanity’s last remaining hope:

The Holy Grail。

From New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff comes Empire of the Vampire, the first illustrated volume of an astonishing new dark fantasy saga。

I really enjoyed this book and i am excited to see where it goes from here。 9/10

Not going to rate this because I’m heavily in a reading slump and that may have skewed my opinion of this book — but I just couldn’t bring myself to care about the plot whatsoever。 I found some of the characters interesting enough, and the premise (different orders of vampires and whatnot) to be intriguing, but it just never really gripped me。 I’m on page 291 out of 728 and still forcing myself to pick it up。 I don’t hate it, I just don’t care to keep reading。 Unfortunately。

Thank you to Tandem Collective Global and Harper Collins Aus for my review copy!I really don't think I can say anything more than what has already been raved about, but I thought this was a masterful piece of storytelling, world building and character development。 It was gory, sexy, funny and even made me cry (which almost never happens for me in a book)。 For those who are skeptic of the hype - I assure you, it is real。 I had only ever read Nevernight by this author before, which I didn't partic Thank you to Tandem Collective Global and Harper Collins Aus for my review copy!I really don't think I can say anything more than what has already been raved about, but I thought this was a masterful piece of storytelling, world building and character development。 It was gory, sexy, funny and even made me cry (which almost never happens for me in a book)。 For those who are skeptic of the hype - I assure you, it is real。 I had only ever read Nevernight by this author before, which I didn't particularly love, but this book was AMAZING。 。。。more

I don't actually have words for how good this is。 My mind is officially blown。 I think I need to come back and write a proper review once I've had time to digest this book。 By far the best vampire book I have read in an incredibly long time。 I don't actually have words for how good this is。 My mind is officially blown。 I think I need to come back and write a proper review once I've had time to digest this book。 By far the best vampire book I have read in an incredibly long time。 。。。more

La storia è molto lenta, infatti ho fatto molta fatica a finire il libro。

This book is EPIC! I loved everything about it。 Smut, creative swearing, blood, betrayal, forbidden love all wrapped up with the most delicious illustrations。 I didn’t even know I needed illustrations but I totally do…now。 My only grievance with Empire of the Vampire is that I have to wait patiently for the next one。

Well that was unexpected。 Look, at 30% in I was about to DNF this book, mostly because it was awful。 And deeply sexist。 But almost immediately after that point the book suddenly remembers it wants to be well written and worth people’s money and time。 Which is when it actually gets interesting!!! It does still have lots of cliches but overall it’s actually really good (once it gets past the beginning)。

Comparing to other Kristoff books this one isn't my favorite I just didn't like the characters as much and thought the pacing was a little slow。 That said as always in his books the world building and lore that shaped the story was masterfully done。 The plot had some great twists and all around I very much enjoyed the tale。 Comparing to other Kristoff books this one isn't my favorite I just didn't like the characters as much and thought the pacing was a little slow。 That said as always in his books the world building and lore that shaped the story was masterfully done。 The plot had some great twists and all around I very much enjoyed the tale。 。。。more

⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sweet Redeemer! This book is a masterpiece。 “Hearts only bruise。 They never break” Well hearts may do that but souls… souls can break into pieces and Jay Kristoff is an expert doing so。 Now, this book may not be for everyone。 If you have read Nevernight Chronicles and enjoyed those books, this book will be everything you wanted and more。 If you didn’t enjoy them…you will hate this book。 The book tells the story of Gabriel de León in an unique way。 He is a prisoner, telling his story to a vampire and therefore, the book goes fowards and backwards constantly。 The story…is dark, sometimes vulgar and bloody。 The hero is not your usual hero and he is broken, lost his faith, his life purpose, his compass and uses alcohol more than he should and behaves like a prick more than once。 Triggers: this book is heavy on faith and how it can shape communities。 Sex, you will read sex scenes。 Blood and gore…yes, the battles are quite detailed。 In case that you are still unsure, this book is for adults only。 Where Nevernight could be in the line between, Empire of the Vampire goes well ahead into adult territory。 The book is a slow read, the world building is borderline outstanding and the narrative creates the perfect vibe to feel immersed in the setting of the story。 Also, there is a ton of information and you should not rush it。 It’s like a nice glass of wine, needs to be savoured and enjoyed slowly。The tale…is much more than cruel vampires and has a completely unique twist presenting the holy grail。 This book is a nostalgic tale, a story of faith and the loss of it, a story of love, family and friendship and the ups and downs of it。 The very highs full of joy and the destroying lows。 Is a story of losing your life purpose, you compass and trying to survive, is much more than just vampires。 Gabriel is a vampire-hunter with a vendetta agenda that loses his way and finds himself involved in a strange fellowship ready to save the world。 We will learn about his teenage years, his life changing events, his actions that bring him to be the greatest of his kind and his downfall。 He is a great character, he is funny, witty, broken and bitter and during his forced tale telling as a prisoner, there are some great moments between him and Jean-François with some banter that made me laugh。The book focuses on his story but we are gifted with some great characters。 Aaron was a very interesting character, Astrid and Chloe a surprise (each on a different way), Dior a mystery that needs more time to be completely solved and Greyhand a fatherly figure that guides Gabe (even if the guidance wasn’t always good)The villain…the villain is a constant shadow, a presence that makes you fear for the characters that you love and a villain that strikes hard and destroys your soul。I will only say that The Worst Day is a chapter that made me sob and destroyed my soul。 Once again, Mr Kristoff does it…and once again I had to stop reading, clear my tears and take a moment before going back into the story and trying to find a way where what I just read wasn’t real, trying to have hope even if I knew it wasn’t a single drop of it。 I enjoyed both the hardback copy (heavy to the point that you may hurt a vampire with it…😂) and the audiobook。The book is narrated by Damian Lynch and he does it brilliantly。 He brings the characters to life and transitions very well from character to character。 It really helps to get you submerged into this universe。 Totally recommend this audiobook。 Final Note: The internal artwork by Bon Orthwick (@monolimeart) is incredible。 。。。more

Fuck my face! (My new favourite thing to say) that was holy shit… wow。 My thoughts are all over the place so I can’t quite comprehend them。

With evocative and unapologetically in your face prose Jay Kristoff manages to give us a blood-drenched tale with incredible characters, told in a non-linear fashion by the main character of the story itself。 A fantastic look into trauma, grief, loss of faith and purpose held tight by the prose I mentioned above and a heartfelt and brutal story。 5/5 stars

Okay, started to continue with it again。 - Oct 1, 2021I really don’t have the patience for poetic writing that drags on。 I like the concept of the Witcher meets Game of Thrones but this was too dragiing and DNF’ed at less than 10%。 Maybe in the future, sir kristoff and I be friends with his future books。

3。5 stars yes I did enjoy this book。 I liked most of the characters。 Loved the world building and the start to a good series。 I just don’t think I really need to be this long。 And everytime Gabriel set out on a new part of the plot, oh what’s that trouble happens, every single bit。 It could’ve have been cut down a lot。 I am looking forward to the next book。 I’m liking where things are heading but why make everything into a oh here we go again but of drama that isn’t needed。 Lots of questions I w 3。5 stars yes I did enjoy this book。 I liked most of the characters。 Loved the world building and the start to a good series。 I just don’t think I really need to be this long。 And everytime Gabriel set out on a new part of the plot, oh what’s that trouble happens, every single bit。 It could’ve have been cut down a lot。 I am looking forward to the next book。 I’m liking where things are heading but why make everything into a oh here we go again but of drama that isn’t needed。 Lots of questions I want answers to。 Was still a good fantasy read。 Just didn’t need to be that long 。。。more

This book is long as a vampire's life and sadly, not as entertaining。For a quick moment ai thought I might be interested in picking up the 2nd book when it comes out, but looking back I don’t think I will。 The imagery, world building and prose are just great but the plot moves at a glacial pace I can’t get past。 This book is long as a vampire's life and sadly, not as entertaining。For a quick moment ai thought I might be interested in picking up the 2nd book when it comes out, but looking back I don’t think I will。 The imagery, world building and prose are just great but the plot moves at a glacial pace I can’t get past。 。。。more
